We’re ecstatic because today we have a very special guest blogger and dear friend of ours. Marisa, owner of House of Flores, is an amazing event planner based out of Brooklyn, NY. In fact, she literally lives less than 5 minutes away from us 🙂 So without further ado, here is Marisa giving us a few tips on what to expect when planning your next event.
1. Introduce yourself & your company.
I’m Marisa Flores, owner of House of Flores. Our goal is to make sure you have fun, our mission is to make your vision come to life and our deep desire is to help you create amazing memories. Come say hi online:
2. Why did you start your business?
Launching seemed like a natural next act for my life and my career. Event planning marries so many different skills; design, project management, marketing and branding. I love every step of it. All the family dynamics, logistics and emotion that goes behind planning an event like a wedding. It was always a dream and last fall it was time to leverage the relationships I had and take a leap to make it a reality. So I launched and haven’t looked back since.
3. Why do your services add to the brides wedding day?
We are the voice of calm and soldiers behind your vision on your special day. When you make an investment as big as hosting a large party, it’s not enough to trust the catering hall or your relatives to execute the day. They will be distracted with all the details they are accountable for like prepping food or, in the case of a relative, getting dressed! They are not going to remember all the important details you’ve planned or have a 2,000 foot view of what you’ve been planning since you’ve been engaged. That’s where we come in. We are your advocates. From budget management, to sourcing vendors to developing a flow for your entire event, we are the keepers of your wishes every step of the way.
4. What makes you different from your competition?
Our approach and style resonates well with our brides. We get feedback that it is very different from other vendors. Our style has been described as a blend of having the feeling you have an ultra organized and efficient team but at the same time, you don’t actually feel like you’re “doing business”. We make people feel very comfortable to talk about sensitive issues like budgets and family dynamics because they trust us.
5. When should brides book your services? Why?
I know “Month-of-Coordination” services have become really popular. While we love taking on a client at any stage of the process, we advise to consult with us as soon as you start planning and have a date in mind. Our expertise can help you avoid budget pitfalls and contracting issues etc. that you may not notice and that we won’t discover if we are brought in a few weeks before an event.
6. What kind of wedding trends do you see with your upcoming brides?
I think the trend is toward creating a performance for guests. I love to plan receptions that are more like mini productions that showcase a couple’s style or cultural traditions. Our last bride and groom did a dance skit to Party Rock that brought the house down. Dance skits are here to stay and I love it when couples treat their guests to show.
7. What is one must have that you wish every bride would have on their wedding day and why?
Be confident and stand by what you want. I can not stress this enough. I make no apologies when I say this: the day is only about you and your hubby not what everyone else wants.
8. What are the top 3 questions every bride should ask when booking your services?
Your planner is an extension of you and a part of your team. Treat your consultation like you would an interview to hire a new employee. Ask prodding questions that don’t just skim the surface about logistics and budgets. You want to ask questions that shine light on her working style so you can assess if you’ll click with her or not. Remember, this is someone you’ll be working with day after day during the most important and stressful time of your life. You need to know if your personalities will mesh well. For example, ask:
9. Any advice you want to give to future brides?
Don’t forget to eat! So many brides forget to actually enjoy the menu they’ve spent months planning. I love food so it makes me sad.
10. What new accomplishments can we see from your company in the upcoming months?
I think more opportunities will come to House of Flores as we continue to build connections with our vendors and strategic partners. Our goal is to expand in not only weddings but social and corporate events as well. Brides can benefit from a well-rounded planner who has an expanded network and is always learning best practices from planning different types of events.
Happy Monday Everyone!
